Exclamation What kind of 3G (or Edge) speeds are you getting on T-Mobile?

Just trying to see if I am being too picky or if something is wrong with my phone.

For this test, please do the following.

1) Download the free Speedtest app from Ookla.
2) Run it a few times.
3) Report back here with the following..
Your City
Connection Type 3G or Edge
Some of your speeds.
Here's mine.... I get edge at home more often than not, and I get 3G when tooling around town. Here are the speeds I see. They just seem a little slow to me...

New Orleans
3G (sometimes)

Download 487 Upload 430
Download 536 Upload 186
Download 479 Upload 52
Edge
Download 154 Upload 206
Download 151 Upload 236

Is this expected speeds? Or are my fears right and this is too slow? Am I over-reacting?

On T-Mobile's maps I am well in the 3G area, but I don't get 3G in my apartment or even outside.

Worried I wasted a lot of money and am now stuck with a useless brick. :-(

Your in a similar boat as i am. my home and work are clearly in the best 3G area possible for t-mobile but yet i only get edge at work and 2 bars to nothing at home. I get 3g driving around but that's it.

I canceled my plan with t-mobile 2 days after receiving the phone because i was disgusted with the reception. I put my at&t sim in and i'm getting about the same if not a little higher on their edge. Although my BB Bold would pull in like 1.5mb on AT&T's 3G so if you were comparing that to your 3G speeds you have permission to cry.

Don't forget that cell speeds will depend on the time of day also. Any time during the day i'd see 400-800 with at&t 3G on the Bold but at night it would be closer to the 1.5mb, same goes with edge.

I did a lot of searching, but figured a fresh look was warranted since some people have had the new backbone rollout.

Anyone know a site where we can track where the rollout is effective and where it's coming soon? Or is it done? If so, this is sad...

I applied the "force 3G on T-mobile" trick located at Force 3G on T-Mobile! No more Edge!

That seems to at least keep me on my slow 3G (which is at least 1.5 times faster than Edge), but I'm still not seeing anywhere near the speeds reported all over this site. Need to find a way to see if this is a T-Mobile issue or if this phone is a dud.

In my area (Metrowest area of Massachusetts, suburbs about 20-25 miles west of Boston) I'm averaging about 950 kbps down, 380 kbps up. I'd like more, but it's okay.

I'm doing a device swap, more for an off center bottom plate, but also hoping to see if my 3G problem changes/improves.

The HTC/Nexus employee acknowleged the problem and asked a lot of questions for their internal troubleshooting purposes. She did admit that as of now they do not know if it is a hardware or software issue, and if it turns out to be hardware, they will do a recall/replacement plan put in place.

My advice, if you have ANY 3G problems at all, go to HTC - Nexus One Support and Repair and put in a claim to help their info gatehring, even if you do not want a replacement now. That way if there IS a recall, you've shown concern.
