No one really knows if the VZW N1 is even 'cancelled.' Its very likely that it is based on the wording of Google's release, but it nothing has come out from Google saying that the N1 will NOT be released on VZW. On that note, if it is not being released to VZW, I would assume that it is in some way because of VZW, not Google. If that is the case, its likely that Sprint will still get the phone...but this is all speculation on my part

You re still hopeful aren't ya? Nexus One will NOT debut in VZ or Sprint.
Sprint - HTC EVO™ 4G will do to Nexus 1 what Verizon HTC Incredible did to Nexus 1.
