Carrier detection behaviour

I just got back from a trip to the USA and my N1 took a loooong time to detect carriers down there. I selected AT&T and all was good. On my return to Canada, I had to ask it to scan for service and it took a bit of time too before showing the big 3.

My old SE w810i (I loved that phone) connected very quickly to international carriers and without asking when travelling and then reset automatically back to Rogers on my return.

It's not really a big deal but I'm curious as to why the N1 is like this. Does it take longer to scan for 3G service than 2G? Does it not automatically connect to Rogers on my return because I'm SIM unlocked (although I obviously have a Rogers SIM)? Just curious...

On my trips to Mexico the N1 detected carriers within seconds, automatically. When on a cruise ship the N1 found the carrier within seconds, automatically.

Maybe it's just Canada, eh?

Sorry, don't have an answer but we do have 2 W810i's in the house. That is a great phone.

Absolutely! I gave mine to an in-law so I still feel its presence... but I really miss it sometimes
