Nexus S buttons don't light up

Nexus S buttons don't light up
Over time (2 weeks) the button lights don't light up any more. They did light up occasionally and intermittently but not any more. There's no water or other damage. Any ideas, short of returning the unit to Best Buy?

Nope if it's been like that since day one then it's factory defect sorry.
