Question the ringer volume too low

I love my new phone - but I can not hear incoming calls ...

Is it just a bit noisy in the room, with people talking, I can not hear the signal even though the volume is at max.
Is it just to put up or something can be done?

Not sure if it has the option for sound increasing but ringdroid is an app in the market for taking a peace of the song and turning it into a ringtone.

Also I would like to ask, are you using the android sleeve that came with it because I also noticed this within the first few days that I had my nexus one the sleeve greatly reduces the volume of the speaker which I find is annoying but I got used to it after a while and also I make sure I have vibrate set to always so I feel the phone too.

Now, I donīt know what "the android sleeve is"...
In my package came 5 things - the phone Nexus S, a usb-cable, earplugs, a warrrantycard and a safety brochure...

- and I normally donīt keep the phone on me - I am an old, conventional girl and I have a handbag for my stuff including the phone

Over the weekend I'll try that idea with creating your own ringtones ty!
