Nexus S is a Dev phone......Get over it
I cant believe how much hate I have seen for this new phone, the fact of the matter is that this is the new development phone and will NOT replace the Nexus but rather provide a solid platform for gingerbread.
The Nexus S has been created by Google to be the best possible platform to test and further Gingerbread, it is not to show off a new screen, sound system or shoot down space shuttles! If you want the best gingerbread experience it will be the best device to use just like our nexus has been the best thus far for pretty much everything else. People need to understand that this is not a direct replacement for the Nexus and know one is forcing anyone to ditch the Nexus for the Nexus S, i will admit that the name is a poor choice and is causing most of the problems. I will be buying one of these on day of release and will make a pure decision based on look and performance instead of empty assumptions based on a poor name choice!

Thank you. Atleast someone understands the importance of what is being accomplished here. There's simply new features that the N1 can't support and simply not enough support for new hardware to warrant using it. Its a development phone to only support the core basics of Gingerbread.

Right On! It's basically a dev phone for all those Galaxy S series and more out there. When they finally hit 2.3, there will be plenty of apps in the waiting. I don't think Galaxy S will go past 2.3

Personally I was hoping for a Galaxy S with native Android. Can't wait to get hands-on. Ultimately the phone will have the best/fastest support directly from Google.

Thanks for the support, i was beginning to think i was the only one that saw this phone as a dev phone and not some useless failure. too many people have seen the name "Nexus S" and over hyped it to the point of some of our less "tech savy" users thinking its some sort of uber version on the nexus.
People need to understand that it is a phone built for a software version due any day now, if it was the honeycomb phone i would say that it was a little lacking in the specs but from what i can see gingerbread is more about updating the rest of the android line rather than maxing out the nexus.

what's wrong with the name? google came out and said they didnt call it n2 b/c they want to be first in everything, so nexus s sounds fine by me.

What i am trying to say is that being the nexus two people want a better version of the nexus, most of the threads floating around are people saying the jump from nexus one to nexus two is not big enough when in fact there is no jump at all. I should have worded it better but what i was trying to get at is i see it as another platform phone on par with the nexus whilst others are seeing it as a poor upgrade from the nexus

Yes sorry Deel I missed the "not" out my bad, personally i think that the nexus is going to out perform the Nexus S at first as the nexus is so optimised but later into next year when honeycomb makes an appearance we could find that our beloved N1 fails to keep up

I must admit that when I first saw the specs for the Nexus S I was a bit disappointed. Nobby's post, though, gives me hope that when Honeycomb is released sometime in early to mid 2011 we'll get the successor to the Nexus 1 that we anticipated the Nexus S to be. I would think honeycomb would be optimized for the Tegra 2's and thus there would be a need for a new developer phone. I, for one, will be passing on the Nexus S and waiting on the Honeycomb dev phone, which will hopefully represent a bigger step forward than the Nexus S does.
