How to soft reset?

Is it merely taking out the battery? Or is there some sort of combo of bottons/actions?

Thanks but the OP said nothing about Touch Screen Issues and someone from google also said a power cycle is a soft reset.....

well, if a soft reset if just power cycling the phone, what does does power, volume down, and trackball do??

A soft reset is a reset of the OS without any sort of data wipe. This would include both the key combination and power cycling.

A hard reset would be an OS wipe.
