The speaker isn't BOOMINGLY loud, but it is very noticably different from the regular ear volume.

Its MUCH louder than my old Sidekick speaker. :P

I don't know why they make the speaker on the back. When you do a call on speaker, the voice comes out from the back. It definitely makes the volume lower.. not a smart design IMHO

It's louder then iPhone but not as loud as the Droid.

I have noticed that there is a big jump between the "maximum" setting and even just one step below the loudest setting. Kinda wird.

Yea the Droid was an ideal volume for me. Oh well...the power of the N1 makes up for it.

The speaker is significantly better than the iPhone, but its drastically worse, and is about 2/3 the volume of my blackberry 9000's

Thats one thing I would like to be upgraded in future models.

I did notice the N1 speaker isn't that good. I've already missed 5 calls because I couldn't hear the ring and the volume is at max. I tried using the handsfree which isn't good at all. I also have the motorola milestone and compared them side by side using handsfree and the milestone is alot better. I'll be patient and see how things go over the next week with the N1.
