How to use AT&T towers?

Hi all,

I have a T-mobile plan, but sometimes I'll enter areas with no T-mobile coverage.

I know AT&T should work in these parts, but it doesn't get signal.

When I try to search for networks, I just get an error.

Can other users switch back and forth between Tmobile and AT&T? Even when I do a search here at home, I only see T-mobile as an option.

When I press Settings - Wireless & Networks - Mobile Networks - Network Operators, I do see AT&T sometimes. But I've never tried selecting one. I have selected Select Automatically, so I don't really pay any attention to which towers are being used.

Out of the country now so I can't try forcing it to AT&T.

Be sure to set your phone for roaming (and data roaming). That should have it switch automatically as needed. Don't worry, on T-mobile there is never a roaming charge (at least within the US).

Don't expect 3G coverage, AT&T 3G is not compatible with TMo 3G. I have read you can access their Edge stuff, tho. I don't know personally.

Posted the same question on Google's help and never got a response. Data roaming didn't seem to help at the time... haven't had another opportunity to check. When I tried to connect to at&t it gave me an error....
