Gmail refuses to sync / refresh

It seems that out of nowhere, Gmail has stopped responding to sync and refresh requests. This would normally be a minor inconvenience, but I was unable to pull up a mobile boarding pass sent to my phone.

More information on the problem:

- Sync'ing is turned on
- Gmail inboxes say 'Sync 4 days', with the last conversation dated from 2 days ago
- Tapping the 'refresh' option does absolutely nothing
- Turning the phone off / back on has pushed Gmail messages back to my phone, but the last two attempts failed
- Inbox unread count reads '4', but unread messages do not appear
- In my desktop Gmail account, these messages are at the top (most recent), so it's not a matter of the messages being buried below read messages
- Searching for my missing messages brings them up, and even shows them bolded and unread, but in the inbox view, I see nothing
- No notifications to tell me I have any new mail

Could there be another setting beyond sync that's prohibiting Gmail from pushing notifications to my phone? Any and all help appreciated.

Try deleting data from the Gmail app...

Menu> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> select the All tab, scroll and find Gmail, and delete data...

When you open Gmail again, it should re-sync with the server...
