Wifi - Error after HTC repair

Hi
I sent my nexus one to htc to get the power button fixed after 5 weeks it came back but when I try and turn on wifi it says "turning on...", then "Error". I have tried Wefi, wifi fixer and they dont turn it on, when I recieved the phone back it had froyo 2.2.1 so I rooted and updated to stock 2.3.4 and tried Fix permissions with rom manager but it still wont turn on. I called HTC and they said they could build me a N1 out of spares or I could have a new Desire S I chose the desire. They said I could keep N1 as well.

Anyone got any suggestions to try fix wifi? or is there a bug report I could do to find out if its a hardware issue?

I'm almost sure it's hardware but when you get the error does it say anything if yes then what?? If not then try downloading a logcat and post what it says when you try and turn on wi-fi I won't be able to tell you exactly what it's saying but I can do my best. If it is a hardware issue you could try and get it fixed by a local repair shop.

Surprisingly I think this is software and fixable because I think your missing some files for the wifi to connect so I would try passimg and see what happens. If you don't know what that means just ask and I'll explain.

Thank you I dont really know what passimg is. I know I used it to update to 2.3.4. I can get into recovery so you dont have to explain that bit but some instructions would be great for the rest.

passimg is done from bootloader and it is for flashing a stock ROM to your phone note it will wipe all data.

Passimg method
1. download the file from this link [ROM] Passion_Google_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_MFG_Shipment_ ROM - xda-developers

2. rename that file passimg.zip

3. place that file on the root of your SD card (not in any folders)

4. turn off you phone and reboot into bootloader by holding down the volume down key at the same time as power button.

5. you should wait a second for the SD card to mount then you will be prompted to flash the passimg file accept and wait for the file to flash.

6. after that you should be all good just reboot and reinstall everything.

Hi I downloaded from the link and installed but I kept getting the coloured X loop on startup, so I found another frg33 and installed that and froyo loaded fine but I still get the WIFI Error. I also installed a radio update to 5.12.00.08 but no joy and I also installed the OTA update to gingerbread 2.3.4 but still get error when I try and turn on WIFI.

I think it maybe a hardware problem but thank you for your help.

Ok well in that case it's probably hardware but are you sure that froyo installed right because that happens sometimes people think the zip flashed but didn't you need to see the prompt if it is just the little blue progress bar it's not flashed.

After I got the coloured x loop I had to install it through RA recovery I was running 2.2 for about an hour untill it asked to update to 2.3.4.
