Did this but my xxx files can still be seen in my gallery....

Try and either kill the gallery app, unmount, then remount the SD card, or restart. Sometimes the Gallery keeps the thumbs in there and will still reference the image. After making a .nomedia file the next time the Gallery caches the images it will pass them up. The gallery caching has been an issue for me both when trying things like this, and also when taking an image with a 3rd party program. The image will take and save, but the gallery will not show it until it is restarted and it recaches everything.

Let me know if this works for you.

heres the way to do it..... got this from andronica ahihihihi

Here’s an easy trick that should only take a couple of minutes to keep unwanted audio or video files from popping up.
1. On your computer, open Notepad or any other text editor
2. Save the blank file as “.nomedia”
Make sure that the Save as type is set as “All Files” instead of “Text documents”
3. Copy that file to the folder on your SD card containing audio files you don’t want to show up.
(Example: If you want to block CoPilot sound files from coming up, place the .nomedia file in the sdcard/copilot folder)
4. Reboot your phone and the files should no longer be viewable
