Group chat like iOS4 iPhone on Android?

Unfortunately some of my friends have iPhones, and when they send a group text, when any of the recipient replies, it shows up in that single SMS/MMS thread, making it look like they're in a chat room. When I receive it, and they reply, of course it shows up in their own name's conversation... I wonder if there's an app that I can use to make it work like theirs....without the need to use a third party app like ping chat..

I believe Google talk allows a group chat.
You can add another person to your current chat. I am not sure if that's what you are looking for.

You can group chat using Pingchat. You just have get all your friends to download the app.

I wonder if what Handcent did to me yesterday is what you are looking for. Yesterday I sent out one text message to two people; handcent keeps those messages in the same chat listing. When one replied, it was in that same chat listing. I am not sure if that is a setting, but before when one replied it would be in it's own chat listing.
