I'm not rooted and I've cleared it. Back when all those manual FroYo updates were appearing, one of the links I went to suggested to clear it during the FroYo udpate in order to avoid any left over problems.

That's pretty cool! I was unaware you could do that with the stock recovery.
Thanks for the link! |

Correct me if I am wrong, I have been rooted a long time and forget things.
But wasn't there a choice to "wipe cache" and/or "wipe dalvik cache", if not rooted? In other words two separate choices. So, is there a difference between wiping cache and wiping dalvik cache? Is just the cache choice outside of the virtual machine cache?

I just wiped mine and hoping it smooths out the app drawer scrolling. Seems to be a bit more responsive.
What is Dalvik Cache? - xda-developers From Cyanogen: "When Android starts up, the DalvikVM looks thru all of your applications (.apk files) and frameworks, and builds a tree of dependencies. It uses this dependency tree to optimize the bytecode for every application and stores it in the Dalvik cache. The applications are then run using the optimized bytecode. This is why when you install a new ROM, sometimes it takes a very long time to boot for the first time. Any time an application (or framework library) changes, it's reoptimized and the cache is updated."
