VERY interesting question! I've no need to go Samsung, but they may have made a sure-fire iPhone killer that removes all debate once and for all. I hope the phone DOES rock, but I'll still be VERY happy with my Nexus for at least another year...heck I'm already almost 6 months in, and still learning about the phone!
Let's talk Samsung Galaxy!

I'd say Nexus One, simply because the OS updates are not at the mercy of someone else's but Google. Also, you'll get them faster than everyone else.

I've been quite happy seeing things turned on with the N1 pre-release Froyo and still wonder what other surprises they still have left for this phone i.e. wifi n, fm receiver, 720p video recording. This phone gets daily hard use and comes out punching at the end of the day so of course I choose the Nexus. T-mo give me a family plan option and I'm set.

Hardware-wise, the Galaxy will win hands down (Obviously, its also a new device)

Software-wise- Probably the Nexus since its google's baby (faster updates) and is similar specced to other popular android phones (Desire, Incredible...). You can also see how much the Nexus gets from Dev's =D...

You'd be better off getting a Ford Galaxie
