Having an "unlocked" phone from Verizon would not make much sense. Verizon is the only CDMA carrier in the country with the exception of maybe Metro PCS if that's in your area. If you had an unlocked CDMA phone which carrier would you go to besides Verizon.

yes sprint is PCS too, but use different frequencies like at&t and t-mobile doesn't share.
