i just got my n1 and i installed a compass/leveler app, tested it and exited. overnight the battery went down 50% and i checked the power usage and most of it was from that app. so i unstalled that app. are there apps that are designed improperly that continue to draw power after you go back to home screen? or is it a problem with my phone's power allocation?

You have to worry about applications running in the background... sometime....

It actually depend of what kind of applications you are running. How well applications are written, etc...

That's why (my opinion) Apple have strict control over what apps are going to App store. They want to make sure that average Joe doesn't need to think about anything besides how to install and run application. I see why somebody might like this, but I don't. Android is like your PC. You can install anything you wish, a good apps and bad ones. For example, you can have app running app that keeps reaching some internet location. Leave it running in the background and your battery will suffer. Let's say some multiplayer game that query some internet server for new players.... anyway...
I use task killer just to kill apps I know they will drain my battery. Others, I leave in peace.

So, in my opinion, Backnblack is wrong.
