wifi not at&t edge

I'm using at&ts edge network with no data plan so is there a way to prevent the phone from using the network for browsing or emails? When i connect to wifi does the phone choose that over the network or does it pick whatevers faster? I dont wanna get a $300 bill next month cause i thought i browsing over wifi but it was actually the network. Thanks for any replies

so far, the behavior i've observed is this:


If the N1 finds a familiar/working WiFi, it switches over to using that
otherwise it will use 3G/2G network


If WiFi is disabled, always uses 3G/2G


since I have unlimited data, I just turned off wifi (also saves on battery)

I'm not doubting you but is there a way you can tell if your using wifi or edge, and also does anyone know of any other applications that access the internet without you actually doing anything, I noticed the email did but I have that turned off any other app? thanks

You can call att and have them put a block on internet usage for your line, I did this with my unlocked iphone on att and just used it on wifi.
