Send a message via AIM to Ryands991
To set notification sound for Text messages:
Enter the settings app.
From there go to "Sounds and display".
Go to Notification Ring tone, and set it to whatever you wish.

To set notification sound for E-mail:
Enter the Gmail app.
Press the hard-menu button (In between Back and home)
Go to "Settings"
Scroll down to "Select Ringtone" and set it to whatever you wish.

And get one of the free Profile apps from the Market while you're at it, so you can quickly set a different profile for notifications (Home, Work, Sleeping, etc).

I use Quick Profiles, but try a few to see what you like best.
