Data roaming?

So I'm just checking out my new N1, and I see there's an option to turn on data roaming. If you select it, though, it warns you that it could incur extra charges.

Am I correct that if you have unlimited android data, as required for the subsidized plan, that you have unlimited data wherever the phone is?

Or do you only have unlimited data if you're not roaming?

I can only answer part of your question: I believe this is an option for when you travel overseas so that you don't end up paying for all that data (normally per kb) when you're abroad. Data is free (paid for already) in the US, but not when roaming out of the country.

See, in the good old days, roaming was anytime you weren't in your home area. I will call asap to make sure you're right.

Did you end up calling about this? What did you find out?

Are you on T-Mo or AT&T?

I don't believe you can data roam in the US, atleast with T-Mobile. The main purpose is to turn off data roaming if traveling to Canada or Europe. If you roam there you'll receive a big suprise at the end of the month.

If you do happen to plan to roam (from the US to another country)... call T-Mobile before you leave. They can add a data roaming plan to your account (which is inexpensive, though I don't recall the rate) and they can have it turned on for a specific date that you request, and then disabled at a later date.

I did this (when using a BlackBerry) on a trip to China a few years ago, and I was not disappointed. (Nor was my wallet shocked.)

The posted international roaming rate for T-Mobile is $15/MB. Are you saying there is some way to get a lower price or is your wallet shock proof?

Definitely not a shockproof wallet I had a trip to China a few years ago, and before heading there I spoke to T-Mo about it. They set me up on an international data plan which ended up costing me less than $10 for my week long trip.
