Sales Tax on NExus One (t-mobile)

Guys

I ordered the phone with a T-mobile contract and google charged me sales tax at 8.25% on the original price of the phone which is $529.

Doesnt the sales tax apply to the final price that the consumer is paying after the discounts. Google should hav charged me 8.25% on $179 and not $529.

what do u guys think. i have already emailed them about this. lets c what they say.

Shipping Status Qty Item Price
Not yet shipped 1 Nexus One phone - $529.00
1 Service plan discount - Discount for service -$350.00
1 SIM - Subscriber Identity Module $0.00
1 Shipping - FedEx overnight $0.00
Tax (TX) : $43.64
Total: $222.64

Eek, that puts the total cost of ownersip (TCO) on buying a contracted plan even worse!

I think you are getting charged that much because tmobile is comping the phone price, not your tax.

I still think the tax from google's store blows.

Both versions are unlocked. The difference is between subsidized and unsubsidized.

Google charges tax on both that should correspond to your state's sales tax.

i believe google made a mistake since its their first time selling something online

the point is, if i go to fry's and buy a hdtv whose initial cost was $2000 and there is a discount for 800, the cost is 1200 and i pay tax on that 1200 not 2000.

how the hell is google charging me tax on the full price of the phone. I will be paying taxes on the freakin $79.00 per month also to T-Mobile.

Your example with the tv is a bit flawed. If fry's discounts the tv, they just sell it for less.

When you buy this phone, google gets full price no matter what. They get your portion with the tax, and tmobile sends them the comped amount.

It would be really complex for tmobile to pay everybodies taxes since they are different everywhere.
