Sales Tax

I've been dancing with Google on this. Actually, they charged me the wrong percentage of tax (too high) on the full price. They maintained that the were "obliged" to charge sales tax on the full, non-discounted price. I found that odd since they are the only seller, online or brick and mortar, service provider or third party, that seems obliged to do this, at least in MN where I live.

I contacted the MN Dept of Revenue and they informed me that the sales tax should have been calculated (at the proper rate!) on the DISCOUNTED price, not the full price.

I've written to Google again and will wait 24 hours for a response before going to my credit card company. I think if the media gets wind of this it would be a big deal.

BTW, I know that in CA, MA and RI they are required to charge sales tax on the non-discounted price. But that's not the case in my state or in other states (to the best of my knowledge).

This is really disappointing.

some states require that you be taxed when making purchases over the internet. It has has to do with where they are located, and a bunch of other stuff. I looked it up. Probably Google is just scared, I mean they wont put multi-touch on the us version of the phone because they are scared of Apple, imagine how scared they are of the US government (IRS took down Al Capone you know).
