i got a friend that is an existing tmobile family plan customer. does n1 support family plans with an add on charge for data plan?

Yes, I called T-Mobile with just this question. You can even but a N1 now and upgrade it to a family plan at a later time...for a charge of course.

No, you can buy the phone with the 2 year agreement($179) and upgrade with a $35 activation fee for the second phone on the family plan.

I dunno, I had problems with this. my situation was a little different i guess, i was on a month-to-month family plan and wanted to branch off on my own with N1. after a couple hours of hassle on the phone w/ Tmo, I had to buy an unlocked phone and get the even more plus plan. It was the only way for me to keep my # w/o waiting one pay cycle on my own account.

I am still under contract for my G1 (two other phones on the plan, but they do NOT have data) back in nov 2008 so I had to pay full price.

Yea...I don't know if they will let you go the other way IE Family plan to personal plan.
