How can i set the wallpaper with a whole picture instead of that stupid stretchy box which doesn't use the whole picture?

unfortunately you can't you have to crop the picture

The 'stupid stretchy box' is there so as to keep the aspect ratio right. If you get an image in the right resolution then you can use the whole thing.
