I've been using ping responses in my local wifi setup to get a qualitative assessment of the N1 hardware/software. The N1 wifi is configured to be always on.
N1 screen on: 40-80 ms N1 screen off: 100-300 ms local ancient pentium running Windows XP: 1-2 ms A faster snapdragon isn't going to get me too excited. It's like a faster abacus. |

Yeah, it looks like power consumption is more important than speed.
1) They drop the clock way down when you press the "off" switch. Maybe a factor of 3 or 4. 2) It's a very slow general purpose processor/stack compared to a PC's Intel/Windows (or Linux or whatever). This is OK when you think of the usage model and the fact that there's a lot of specialized processing circuitry that is not involved in something like a ping response. But it does tell me that there's no urgent need for a faster snapdragon. My N1 can render a Battlestar Galactica show beautifully. |
