I believe the trackball is the most underrated feature on the phone. For example if you are browsing this forum, its hard to navigate to the next page of a thread using any of your fingers. Its far much easier to use the trackball as a mouse and pin point the page numbers. Same goes for websites like Facebook. Its hard to select certain stuff on the site using your fingers without having to change the zoom size of the page. This is the main reason I like the trackball.

The trackball gets too much negative press! I love it!

It lets you scroll web pages without Covering the screen with your fingers

It also visually lets you know when you have a message / battery is low etc.

I love my track ball!

I'm one for the trackball, as Zindol mentioned it is so much easier with the trackball to navigate around certain web pages.

Long live the trackball

At first I thought the same, but now I find it comes into it's own for copying and pasting and moves the cursor more accurately than I can with my finger. Would hate not to have it now!

Is the trackball useed at all when typing text messages? IE to move the cursor to a specific spot? That is what I really want it for and is why I am no longer as interesed in a droid (no trackball or d-pad)

Coming from an iTouch, I didn't get the trackball at first, either, but now I wouldn't do without it. I use it more and more every day.

Yes, that's where I get the most mileage from it, very useful.

Anything, basically. It's really cool.

To be honest, I wasn't really into the trackball at first but it's really grown on me and turns out to be incredibly useful, especially in places where precision is critical -- like correcting an error while typing. It's great for playing games. It's awesome as a shutter button for the camera. I just find more and more uses for it every day.

In fact, I have an iPod Touch and regularly wish there was a trackball on it because everything takes so much longer to do.

My only concern is over time it might get dirty/discolored.
