Unlocking Bootloader not working in Nexus One

I installed necessary binary files and libs for Fastboot, actually i installed the complete SDK, and its been confirmed that USB driver is installed and showing the device as Android1.0. After that, i connected my Nexus One to PC and gone into bootloader mode by pressing power button and Track ball.

after that, i opened the command prompt and went to the fastboot exe folder. typed cmd "fastboot oem unlock" nothing happened on my device and in the command prompt it says "waiting for device" nothing is happening. i also tried entering into FASTBOOT mode in nexus one, after a second it is returning back to Bootloader screen. Am I doing anything wrong. need help in this.

Thanks in Advance

Try "fastboot-windows oem unlock" if you are on windows if you are on mac or linux same thing but instead of windows it's mac or linux.

Haven't done this for a long time and was never good at it--

Did you firts type fastboot devices and see if your phone is recognized

It should return your H-- serial number

I hope the command I quoted is correct

Also, do you have debug selected on your phone

Also, first change directory path "cd" to tools folders in command screen, you should have your fastboot img installed there

Like Ken said, "fastboot devices".

This will confirm your phone is connected and communicating with your computer...

Flashing ROMs is a choice you can flash them or not flash them it's up to you. Custom ROMs will have some built in features like FM radio sometimes, that you can't get unless you have a custom ROM installed. The advantages and disadvantages depend on the ROM you flash I would do a little research on a ROM of your choice (if you want my recommendation cyanogen) here is a list of the most popular ones that you can chose from CUSTOM ROMs LIST
