maybe to plug it on his laptop when he's not at home to tether without rooting the phone, that is the only thing that I can think of he's trying to do.

Lithium batteries don't require conditioning, the memory effect only occurs in NiMH and NiCad batteries. The only real need to discharge a lithium battery is to calibrate the battery with the phones internal gauge, every 30-40 charging cycles.

Download Toggle Settings. Do your files xfer first, and when done, use Toggle to turn on GPS, Bluetooth, wifi, full screenbright,screen never time out, then launch navigation to kept GPS fully active,launch music player attached to collection over wifi and your N1 will be dying in no time. LOL.

Actually laptops send 500ma to USB ports even when on battery power.
