It's good, but it ain't THAT good. I consider this another option in the plethora of options. In my Jan 5th post on lostlocalhost.com I finished up by saying "unless this Jan 5th announcement is game-changing and will result in more wireless freedom, lower costs, or a huge jump in innovation - I think whatever it is could be a flop, or at least highly over-hyped."
Without having it in my hand yet (damn snowstorm is delaying the FedEx guy!) so far I have not seen it really breakout and be the new thing everyone was waiting for.

Iphone vs. Nexus
I believe that when the agreement with AT&T ends and iPhone starts going to other carriers, the same will happen for Google and AT&T will improve for Google's sake and the market.
Google just has to continue excellence in all that it does to find itself in very serious contention in the smartphone area all-the-while expanding its reach and favor of the people. Google For the People!
