N1 won't boot into recovery

I have been looking for an answer to this for a while and haven't found exactly what I am about to describe.

A few days ago I unlocked and rooted my N1. I performed a Nand backup of the factory ROM(actually 2 backups-due to my noobieness) and installed the latest stable version of CM6 and the gapps. Everything was lovely but I have been having that GPS problem.

So I backed up the CM and restarted, booted into recovery and picked one of my factory ROMs and it started right up. Also, no GPS problem, I might add. I then tried to boot into recovery several times and it went past the X immediately to the android guy and the exclamation triangle.

I tried several times after pulling the battery and keep getting the same thing. Suggestions?

Should I reflash the amonRA? If I do that will I lose any of the ROMs or any of the other tweaks that I have done to the phone in respect to CM6?

John

Try the 3 finger salute when it hangs.

vol-/pwr/trkball at same time.

Hey, Ken!

That gets it rebooted for sure, but doesn't help me get into recovery!

It should take you to a screen you can get to recovery from. Thru fastboot or something like that.

That just reboots the phone.

You should reflash a custom recovery. Probably you have lost your recovery when you flashed stock rom

You might be right but it seems odd. The amanRA that I used came from the CM site. I used the regular version. I wonder if I should use the cyan version now? Or do you have something that you think is better?

You can use Rom Manager from the market to flash Clockwork Recovery.

I think ClockWork is the easiest way

I had the exact same problem. I can't fully remember why, but it had something to do with the process of manually rooting the phone (i.e unlocking boot loader). As I recall, if you rebooted the phone at a certain point in the process, it dumps the custom recovery you flashed AFTER you enter it for the first time. There are two files (can't remember the name of them) that don't get deleted from the system, and these files make sure your phone boots back into stock recovery. only problem is, your stock recovery is no longer there, so you get the android with a triangle. or something like that....

What I did was exactly what was mentioned - install rom manager, and flash clockwork mod recovery. You can even flash amon-ra from it. After that, I had no issues.
