kobefn,

No disrespect, but you got a lot of first posts all over. Just read the various threads, stickies, and do some searching. You can a lot of questions answered by doing some initial research.

Woops... I meant to post on this one what I posted on the link above... Oh well here it is.

I just did it a couple days ago, it was really easy! I used my Windows 7 x64 computer, so there's no problems using the newest OS. Just remember, when you unlock the bootloader you will loose all your stuff. So either make a backup or if you are like me not even think about it until you see the touch the android screen... I didn't loose anything important, it was all on Google. I just had to reinstall some apps and put my widgets back.

Here's a nice tutorial on how to do everything. I'm sure there's more around the forum here too.

Remember... Before you root, make sure you did read all the instructions. Do homeworks first. Minimize the risks of boot-loop or worst, brick

Lastly, in the end it will take some time to boot, DON'T EVER interrupt or PULL the battery out!!! Just wait...

Nor for beginners, too much left out. Below are just some of the guides I learned from. With each one I still had to RESEARCH some of the steps and I made mistakes a long the way. There are files that need downloaded and put into the tools folder of SDK and into Windows 32. All the guides seem to have diferrent steps and don't include everything a newbie like me needed. It is trial and error. Some of these guides are for different phones/builds. You need to know what build you have. Menu/Settings/Phone, scroll to bottom of page.

Read and study them all till you got a grasp of it.

I use Modaco r21 ROM below. I am a paid member and use the kitchen to bake his ROMS. He has ROMS that are very stable and is working on one that will be senseUI based. r21 is based on frf91 build.

02/Jul r21 - MoDaCo Custom ROM for Nexus One with Online Kitchen - Froyo FRF91 - Android @ MoDaCo

Once rooted do a nandroid backup immediately and do them before you install new roms or even when new apps etc are done to the phone.

An alternative choice posted by rioja on this site:

22/Jul - Superboot ERD79 -> FRF91 - rooting the Nexus One - Android @ MoDaCo

There is another thread in the active topics talking about rooting frf91. Lots of info out there.

Another Choice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710842
