fastboot devices command not recognized

Hi
I am trying to root my Nexus One and having problems with the flashboot devices command.

I installed the SDK and USB Driver, I put the phone in Developer Mode, I put it in Flashboot mode, I had the SDK tools running and cd into the folder with the SDK tools in it, and typed 'fastboot devices' and the command line told me it wasn't recognized. I googled and found some people saying you have to type 'fastboot-windows devices' so I tried that and it didn't work either.

OS is XP 32bit.

Help!

If you are sure that you have debugging on, then it might be that the drivers did not install successfully.

Ok thanks I'll reinstall them and see if that fixes it.

Ok did that on my Vista machine this time and same problem.

Everything seemed to install correctly.

I tried all the commands again and nothing works. It says 'not recognized as internal or external command'

Ok here's what we're doing exactly:

Install SDK and USB Drivers, everything seems to install without a problem. To install USB drivers we make windows install the driver and point it to the SDK folder on the desktop and then USB Drivers folder.
Then we put the phone in USB Debug mode and restart it into Fastboot mode (connected to USB of course)
Then we open a command line window (run > cmd)
Then we cd into the folder that has the SDK files in (cd desktop\n1)
Then we type 'fastboot devices'
Doesn't work so we try 'fastboot-windows devices' and 'adb devices' those don't work either.
All the commands tell us they are not recognized internally or externally.

What are we missing?

We've tried it on XP and Vista with the same results.

Fixed the problem, for anyone having the same problem: I wasn't cd'ing into the 'tools' folder which is necessary for the fastboot commands to work.
