That's because you need drivers to make it recognize. In the SDK go to available packages -> third party add-ons -> google inc. -> usb drivers revision 4. Open the device manager on your computer then look for an unidentified device then right click install driver software then manual and point it to the directory where you just saved the drivers (probably something like C:/program files(x86)/android/android-sdk/extras/google/usb_drives) then it should recognize it.

4-10-2011 : Got my phone back and now I'm back on my feet

PS: If you can boot to anything like a bootloader then recovery then it's not bricked. 'Bricked' implies the device is dead - like a brick... won't turn on, won't talk, can't recover without factory JTAG/reprogramming. So your device might not be working but it doesn't sound bricked.
