I'm running cm7.1 RC,its android 2.3.4 build,all you want to do is root?and am I correct in assuming you want to stay on 2.3.4?

Ok well here's what I would suggest, looking around and see if you can find a rooted version of 2.3.3 or 2.3.4, and install that.
What I found was the easiest way was to use the passimg method which will down grade you to 2.2.1.
At that point you can use z4root to one click root your phone.

(Keep in mind that if accept any updates to gingerbread you will lose root again)

After that download rom manager,flash your recovery(which will be clockwork recovery) and pick o rom to dl,if you have your heart set on 2.3.4 dl cm 7.1.

That's my suggestion other then that,unlocking boatloader(voids warranty) using the SDK is the only other way that I know

ok im done did downgrade to 2.2.2 and then update to 2.3.3 with the help of ipeck and then gingerbreak....et voila le tour est jouer...merci ipeck.

just flash the latest cyanogen RC to get to 2.3.4

12-27-2010: Rooted my nexus one
12-31-2010: Flashed my first ROM, cm6.1.1
2-25-2011: Bricked it
4-10-2011 : Got my phone back and now I'm back on my feet
