Yup - once you have installed a custom recovery, you can use it to install anything you want...

Here's the instructions:

How did you get 2.3.6 ?

I'm rooted...2.3.4
How and when did you get 2.3.6?
Can I get it too...how?

But, may be not...since rooting my Internal Memory on N1 is always near or less than 20mb. this is what i had before rooting. Why did i do it? I don't know.

Helpless!!

You have two options; unlock the bootloader, or revert to an earlier version of Android and use an exploit...

Take a read here, and let me know if you have any questions...

That all depends on which ROM you are running now.

If you have a stock ROM, you can just flash the update over the top (and flash su at the same time, if you want to keep root).
If you have a custom ROM you will either have to flash an update specifically for that ROM, or wipe and install a new ROM.

If you are rooted, you have a lot more options for recovering that lost space. As specific questions, and I'll try and give you more specific answers...

Thanks for contacting me. I'll bother you again with some stupid ignorant questions :-)

- I just rooted some months back per your instructions. My N1 shows:
version: 2.3.4
kernel: 2.6.35.7-59463-g52630a2
build: GRJ22
How to find out my ROM ?

- Twice i got a message, two times, for 'system update'.
But after following the instructions to 'install' it begins the operation and shows something is getting installed but even before reaching 50%, it hangs showing just a triangle with an exclamation mark in it and a green android symbol outside.

- i try to power off after several minutes...but it does not.

- then i take the battery out and reinsert to start.

- back at the top 2.3.4 !!!

Sorry....
