Can we install apps from Non-Android Marketplace?

Is it safe if we copy/download files from other sources (outside of Android Marketplace) and install them for Nexus One?
Anyone experienced please help to advise.

As long as you trust the source. I have done this a couple of times. You will need to check the Unknown Sources under the Applications setting in order to do this. Just pay attention to what permissions the app requests and you should be ok.
