Best app for backing up/saving data?

I'm selling my unlocked nexus one and buying the new one that is compatible with AT&T's 3G. I've copied my contacts, but is there an app or another way to save all of the data on my phone? I assume that all of my apps will need to be installed again, but would it be as simple as putting in my sd card into the new phone? I would ideally like to save texts, contact favorites, settings, etc. I guess what I'm looking for is something similar to apple's restore feature for the iphone where you just restore your phone from a previous backup. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I just did this and my apps did not transfer over.
Then go to Market > Downloads for quick re-install.

Also it important to remember that the 'enable backup' as to be done when you first set up your account.
