Change color of the top bar?

Change color of the top bar?
Is it possible to change the color of the top bar where the battery indicator, clock, signal icons are? I'm guessing you need root access but I was wondering if it was possible with out.

yup, you need to root
 i wanna change the top bar, take out the time in the bar and be able to shoot screen shots. but i don't want to root

I also wish we could change the color of the notification bar without rooting. I wish Google would make it a simple menu setting: either black or white, etc..
