1. No - Hope to see an app soon. With their purchase of Gizmo5, lots of possibilities...
2. No - but I'll send you one if you IM your email. |

I've seen the voice app in demo videos, so I know it exists. Check the marketplace?

Actually Android has support for Google Voice built in but it's currently SMS only. There is no Voice over Data or VOIP integration at this time.

I understand that Google Voice will, at this implementation, use minutes. I am left wondering what Google's "master strategy" is for voice calls.
In a way, I am taking a step backward with the N1 because I am giving up (free and convenient) VOIP that is implemented with our UMA-capable T-Mobile phones. Since the N1 has WiFi there is no technical reason for Google and T-Mobile to have decided not to implement UMA. I infer from this that there must be a Google-driven strategy for voice that involves data. Seems like Google Voice fits the bill, they just need to implement VOIP over the data link. Obviously the phone companies are going to resist being relegated to dumb pipes and giving up the margins that go with selling minutes. Why would they do this? As always, the answer is probably that they don't want to, but competition and the inevitable efficiencies from disruptive technologies will force them to abandon the 25 year old model that persists to this day. These are just my ignorant musings. Anyone with real information care to comment? |
