easiest way to transfer data to pc via wifi?
I just started using nexus 1 / android and cant believe there is not an easy way to use wifi to move data between phone and a pc. I would think this ability would be built right into the basic OS ... am I missing something ?
I dont have the micro usb cable and want to simply backup files that are on the sdcard. cant I 'mount' the nexus one via the wifi so that I can easily see it on my pc. I tried some apps like estrongs and astro but they didnt work. estrongs would only move files FROM pc to phone and NOT TO pc from phone. thx! |

Dropbox uses the cloud which is not exactly what you want, but has many advantages for accessing files that you would like to sync between computers. I believe there are lots of ways to transfer wirelessly including bluetooth (the bandwidth is limited, but it doesn't require any new software and should just work via file manager).
Basically you need any app on your phone that functions as a server/client and the same on your computer. The Bluetooth stack supports this and should just work on both phone and bluetooth enable computer. There is an app for samba that lets you mount your phone storage as a share in your samba server. This is what I use. You will need to learn about samba and set it up on a desktop unless you have a NAS or media center that you normally use for a home network. The setup for me (Ubuntu 10.10) was to allow access for my roommate on his several windows machines. The setup isn't hard if your used to following faq's and guides. I'm not really happy with my security settings yet as I want a more robust login for when I'm off my home network. As long as you are on your home wireless, you can just use the guest setting. |

I use eStrongs file manager. It has options to connect over LAN, Bluetooth, or even FTP. Great app, and couldn't live without it...

If you want to sync just documents, files anywhere is a good app. You can even fax documents from your phone.

I would definitely recommend DropBox; I have been using it for over a year now and I love the program. It is very easy to sync to and from the phone to multiple phones or computers; whatever is connected to the account.

Try out "PushDoc" it's a FREE app that allows to transfer web content (just drag and dropping) and files/directory
from computer to phone (and viceversa) over wifi. With pushdoc you can transfer files wirelessly and manage your sd card from pc or directly from the phone (with an integrated filemanager). It works just drag and dropping stuff from computer to phone. While surfing the web on your computer, you can select anything from your browser and drop it to the phone; if you wish you can also convert your selection into different file formats. For example, you can drag an article from your browser and drop it to the phone as an audio speech file so that you can listen that article with the phone. PushDoc is free on the market. |

I use ES File Explorer to connect to my NAS box.
I am sure if you created a share on your computer you could easily use ES to connect to your computer and do the samething
