You shouldn't need an app. They're usually sent via email or SMS with link or MMS and will just show up as a picture. I used to save the pictures in case I couldn't get online at the terminal for whatever reason.

Hey guys,

One problem I had when using a Lufthansa mobile boarding passes with my Nexus One (and later Nexus S as well) was that the image was too ... big!
I could not make it smaller in the default image gallery, and it was a real pain to get the scanners to read the code.

For a while I used gimp to surround the image with some background so it would appear smaller on the screen, but finally I wrote and app with a friend of mine, that available on the market. It's called BoardIt, and serves as a kind of mobile passes organizer, and has a nice feature of decoding the contents.

Occasionally someone at the security wanted to know the details about the seat or name, and I had to flip back to the e-mail I received together with the picture, but I no longer need to. It's all show alongside the app.

It took us some time to put it together and polish the rough edges, so it's paid. Right now the price is $2.99. You can check it out together with the screenshots at the android market page:

BoardIt 2.0

or at my blog: BoardIt – a boarding pass viewer for Android – Update

And I'm attaching a fancy QR code we came up with
(To generate your own see this HackADay Post)

Cheers!
