What does a launcher do?

What is the name of the one that came on my
no-contract N1?

Any reason I should download a different launcher?

I'm not an expert, but the launcher is basically your home screens. it's like the desktop of your computer. the stock launcher SUX! download either launcherpro or awd launcher. before you do, get a feel on the scrolls you currently have and the feel after you install one of those launchers. you WILL DEFINITELY feel the difference and you will never go back to stock.

I don't see anything called "awd launcher" in the market.

I have downloaded LauncherPro 0.5.1 but do not see it
in my list of apps.

How do I know which launcher is running now?

I'm using ADWLauncher, and I quite like it. It offers more home screens than the stock launcher, and can be tailored to your preferences in a number of ways. I particularly like that I can place a couple of frequently accessed apps on either side of the apps menu key, so they are available on all screens.

After you install a new launcher, when you hit the HOME button it will ask you which launcher to launch. You can also make one the default there.

When you hit the "home" button, you will be given the option of using any launcher app you may have loaded. Choose the LaucherPro option, and you'll see the new setup.

No, I don't see it after hitting 'home', tried scrolling left and right, no luck.

I do see LauncherPro in my 'Uninstaller' app list of
programs on my N1, so it is on my phone.

Try running some other application and then hit the HOME button.
